- Accommodation facility
- A hotel, hostel, apart-hotel, sanatorium, holiday camp, campsite or guest house — a facility for temporary residence. Services may be provided only if the facility is entered in the register of classified accommodation facilities.
- Host party
- The one at whose place the foreigner actually lives: a hotel, an organisation or a flat owner. It puts the foreigner on migration registration and files notifications with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
- Arrival notification
- A message to the Ministry of Internal Affairs that the foreigner has checked in. A hotel files it within one working day following the day of arrival, other host parties — within seven working days.
- Departure notification
- A message to the Ministry of Internal Affairs that the foreigner has left. Without it the guest remains registered at your address.
- Registration at the place of stay
- Registration of a Russian citizen where they temporarily live. In a hotel it is done by the administration on the guest's arrival, and the information is passed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs within 24 hours.
- Migration card
- The document that a foreigner fills in on entry. Its number and the period of stay are needed for the arrival notification.
- Machine-readable zone
- Two or three lines of Latin letters and digits at the bottom of the passport page with the photo. They contain the name, number, citizenship, dates and check digits.
- MRZ
- Digital ID
- Information from a Russian citizen's passport in the national messenger or the Gosuslugi app. It can be used to check in without a paper document — only for adult Russian citizens.
- Digital ID
- Short-term rental
- Letting a flat for a short period under a lease. Allowed if the neighbours' rights are respected; hotel services must not be provided in the flat.
- Consent to check in a minor
- A document by which the parents allow a child to be checked in with an accompanying person or a teenager from 14 without adults.
