The customer opens the check
The widget runs on your website, in a mobile app or by a one-time link from an email or message. The first screen shows your logo, a short instruction and the consent to data processing, the text of which you set.
Passport and selfie verification is a check of a customer by passport and face in one short session: the customer photographs the document, takes a selfie and goes through Liveness, and the platform recognises the passport, checks it for forgery, makes sure a live person is in front of the camera and matches their face to the photo in the document. You receive the passport data and the outcome of the check — with no office visit and no manual comparison.
The customer photographs the passport and their face with a phone, and the platform runs all four checks automatically. An employee is needed only for disputed cases.
The platform itself determines the country and type of the document, extracts the full name, date of birth, series and number, reads the machine-readable zone and verifies its checksums. The customer does not need to enter anything manually — the passport data arrives in your system as ready fields.
Document anti-fraud looks for a photo of a screen, a photocopy, a printout, a pasted-in photograph, traces of a graphics editor, erasures and logical inconsistencies in dates. A forgery is filtered out before it comes to the face.
Liveness checks that a real person is in front of the camera, not a printout, a video on a screen, a silicone mask or a deepfake. On the selfie, signs of a generated face and of face substitution are also looked for.
The face in the selfie and in Liveness is matched with the photo in the passport and with each other. If it does not match, the session fails even if the document is genuine: someone else's passport, found or bought, will not work.
How to check a customer by passport and selfie online — six steps of one KYC session. The customer spends less than a minute on them, and you define the steps in the KYC editor. How this check fits into the whole customer journey — on the page about digital onboarding.
A document with the owner's photograph is needed for comparison with a selfie. The platform recognises 16,000+ document types from 195+ countries and territories; the first document type is included in the session price, each next one costs 10 ₽. Which fields are extracted from a passport — on the page about passport recognition.
The main document for customers who are Russian citizens. For matching with a selfie, the spread with the photograph is captured.
Suitable for tourists, migrants and non-residents. The customer does not need to specify the document type and country.
When a passport is not needed by the process — for example, at car sharing registration: the licence confirms both identity and the right to drive.
A face for verification can be obtained in three ways, and they can be combined in one scenario. The session price does not change with the choice: the selfie and Liveness are included in the “Document + liveness” package at a single price.
An ordinary photo of the face with the front camera. The fastest for the customer and enough when you need to match the face with the passport at low risk: a subscription, delivery, registration on a platform. The selfie is checked for screen capture, a photocopy and signs of a deepfake.
The customer holds an open passport next to the face, with the document and the face fully in the frame. This puts the document and the person in one photo: it is harder to submit a photo of someone else's passport found online. The platform matches the face both with the photo on the document in the hand and with the separate passport photo.
The customer brings their face close to the camera using two ovals. The check rules out printouts, videos on a screen, masks and 3D heads, deepfakes and video stream substitution — attacks of all three iBeta PAD levels. It is needed when an account holds money, access to a car or to other people's data. How Liveness works
The strictest combination: the live face from Liveness is matched with the selfie directly, and then with the photo in the passport. If the face in Liveness and in the selfie belong to different people, the session immediately gets the status “suspicious” and is closed.
As soon as the session contains two images with a face — passport, selfie, selfie with a document, Liveness — the platform builds pairs from them and checks the face against the document photo in each. There is no need to configure pairs: they follow from the scenario steps.
The main face of the session is the one that passed Liveness, or the live face from the selfie. The photograph in the passport and the face on the document in the hand are matched against it. In a scenario without a selfie, the main face is the photo in the first document.
If the face in Liveness and in the selfie belong to different people, it is a sign of substitution: the session gets the status “suspicious” and is closed at once. There is no retake in this case.
In the account, each pair has a clear outcome instead of a percentage, with the steps the customer needs to retake next to it. An employee sees the photos of both sides of the pair and can decide on a disputed case.
The algorithm keeps its accuracy when a person has changed their hairstyle, grown a beard, put on glasses or a medical mask, or films themselves in poor lighting. This matters for a passport issued many years ago: the photo in the document and today's face often differ noticeably.
If the face is not found, is out of frame or is covered, the customer retakes only this step — until the attempts run out. A final refusal is when attempts are exhausted or the faces belong to different people.
Comparing a selfie with the photo in a document is not one match but a chain of pairs. This is how the platform links the live face in front of the camera with the photograph in the passport and does not let someone else's face be substituted at any step.
The same face comparison technology is available separately via the API — for matching a face with a photograph outside a KYC session: NeuroVision face recognition.
A face match is only one of the checks of the face step. The others rule out photo substitution, generated faces and discrepancies with the passport data. Each can be enabled in the scenario to suit your risk level.
The accuracy of matching a face to a photograph. In the independent NIST FRVT test (March 2023) the NeuroVision algorithm showed the best result among Russian developers and entered the top 24 solutions in the world.
Comparing a face with the photo in a document takes a tenth of a second. Face pairs in a session are matched as soon as both photos are received — the customer does not wait for a separate stage.
Passport fields are extracted in less than a second, including with glare, minor damage and perspective distortion. So there are fewer retakes, and the data in the form is free of manual-entry typos.
The accuracy of the live presence check. The algorithms have been tested for resistance to presentation attacks under ISO/IEC 30107‑3 (iBeta PAD) and rule out attacks of all three levels — from a printout to a professional silicone mask and a deepfake.
For the customer, the whole passport and selfie check takes less than a minute — most of the time is spent bringing the passport to the camera. The checks themselves take seconds.
Most refusals at the face steps are not fraud but a poor shot. The platform says exactly what is wrong and lets the customer retake only the relevant step. How the hints and the frame in the widget work — on the page about verification on a website and in an app.
There are several attempts per step, and repeat attempts are not charged separately: the price is per session. When attempts are exhausted, a new session is needed for a new check.
The selfie and the photo in the passport did not pass the match. Most often the customer photographed someone else's passport by mistake — for example, a spouse's document — less often it is an attempt to pass with someone else's document.
What to do: Offer to retake the passport; if it does not match again — review by an employee
On one of the photos the platform did not find a face: the photo in the passport is covered by glare or a finger, or cropped by the frame.
What to do: Retake the spread without glare, with the owner's photo fully in the frame
On the selfie the face is partly covered — by a hand, hair, a mask — or goes beyond the edge of the frame.
What to do: Take the whole face, without a mask, at arm's length
A photo of a document or a frame where the face is too small was sent to the selfie step — for example, the person is far away or it is a photo on a screen.
What to do: Take a selfie with the front camera
The platform did not confirm live presence: the customer did not fit into the ovals, filmed in poor light, or there was an image in front of the camera rather than a person.
What to do: Pass Liveness again in good lighting
Signs of a generated face or substitution were found on the selfie or in the video stream. This is not a frame error: the session is marked as suspicious.
What to do: The decision is for your employee or security service
A passport photo is ordinary personal data. An image of a face used to establish identity is biometric data, and separate rules apply to it in Russia. Below is what your company, as a data operator, needs to decide before launch. This is a guideline, not a legal opinion: agree the final scheme with your lawyer.
The “passport + selfie” scenario is needed wherever a customer gets money, access to property or other people's data without visiting an office.
The price is per KYC session with all scenario steps and retry attempts. The selfie and Liveness are included in the “Document + liveness” package at a single price — the choice of step does not affect the cost.
from 16 ₽ per session
Document recognition and anti-fraud: screen, printout, photocopy, photo substitution, editing, logical inconsistencies. Without the face step — for customers who declined the selfie.
Everything from the “Document” package plus a selfie or a selfie with a document, Liveness, face comparison with the photo in the document, deepfake check, age and gender by face.
on request
Document, selfie and Liveness plus database checks in the same session: passport validity, wanted status, bankruptcy, sanctions lists and PEP.
At 10,000 sessions a year “Document + liveness” costs 33 ₽ per session, at 50,000 — 30 ₽, at 100,000 — 27 ₽. An additional document in the same session — 10 ₽, a database check — 5 ₽, all basic Russian checks — 50 ₽, international screening — 36 ₽. An exact calculation — the calculator in the price matrix.

How face recognition, Liveness and passport checking work in KYC — in our blog
It is an online check of a customer by document and face in one session. The customer photographs the passport and takes a selfie, and if needed goes through Liveness. The platform recognises the document, checks it for forgery, makes sure a live person is in front of the camera and matches the face with the photograph in the passport.
A selfie holding a passport links the document and the person in one photo: it is harder to present a photo of someone else's passport found online. The step is enabled in the scenario where the risk is higher. For most tasks, a separate passport photo and a selfie with Liveness are enough.
The face comparison accuracy is 99.74%, and one match takes 0.1 seconds. In the NIST FRVT test (March 2023) the NeuroVision algorithm showed the best result among Russian developers. The match is robust to a change of hairstyle, a beard, glasses, make-up and poor lighting.
The algorithm is designed for changes in appearance, so an old photograph in the passport usually does not get in the way. If the match still fails, the customer retakes the relevant step, and a disputed case can be reviewed by your employee: both photos of the pair are visible in the account.
Liveness rules out printouts, videos on a screen, paper and silicone masks, 3D heads and video stream substitution — attacks of all three iBeta PAD levels. On the selfie, signs of a generated face and of face substitution are also looked for. With such signs the session is marked as suspicious.
For the customer — less than a minute including the capture. Document recognition takes less than a second, the face match — 0.1 seconds, Liveness — fractions of a second after the customer fits into the ovals.
Yes. An image of a face by which identity can be established is biometric personal data; its processing requires written consent (Part 1 of Art. 11 of Federal Law No. 152‑FZ), and since 1 September 2025 consent is drawn up separately from other documents. Your company prepares the consent text, and the widget shows it on the first screen.
You cannot refuse service solely for this reason if the law does not require biometrics (Part 3 of Art. 11 of Federal Law No. 152‑FZ). Offer a second path: a document-only scenario, a check in an office or by a courier. A scenario without the face step is built separately in the KYC editor.
There is an SDK for iOS and Android — passport capture, selfie and Liveness with the native camera. You can do without an SDK: the Web SDK works in a WebView and an in-app browser, and a customer without the app needs only a one-time link.
The “Document + liveness” package — from 29 ₽ per session with all steps and retry attempts; at 10,000 sessions a year — 33 ₽. The selfie and Liveness — at a single price. An exact calculation by volume — in the price matrix.
